Easy Nuoc Cham

This is my quick and easy recipe for the classic Vietnamese dipping sauce Nuoc Cham.

This sauce is sweet, salty, sour and spicy! All of these flavors in balance create an amazing dipping sauce that seals the deal with so many Vietnamese dishes or as a salad dressing.

I take a few short cuts buy using a prepared chili garlic sauce that I like, usually either Sambal Olec or Huy Fong Chili Garlic Sauce. I could mince the chilies and garlic and such but these prepared sauces do the trick and save me time.

Quick and Easy Nuoc Cham


1 tablespoon Chili Garlic Sauce (or more if you like)

3 tablespoons Fish Sauce

The juice of 1 fresh lime

2-3 tablespoons sugar to taste

1/4 tsp each black and white sesame seeds

Some minced chives are a nice add for this but optional.


Whisk them all together and taste for balance.

The goal is equally balanced sweet, salty, sour and spicy flavors.

You may need to adjust the ingredients depending on the sweetness of the lime, the spiciness of the chili garlic sauce or the saltiness of the fish sauce used.
